Speaking of embracing – you gotta check out my latest video on my video page ‘cause I just met a new pup, Lana and we have really hit it off!! Rhuuu-Hoooo!! – She really thinks I’m top dog!
The gift of adopting a special needs dog is an experience mom says she wouldn’t trade for the world. It’s incredibly “special” in so many ways. The bond, I mean the epic, ever growing BOND between us is indescribable.
For instance, this morning she awoke at 3:30 a.m. because I was looking up at her! What?? How does she know that? She takes one look at me & whispers you wanna be flipped?... Then, all I did was give her one, single, teensy, weensy tip- of- the- tail wag and she knew that meant yes. And from her?… no grunts or sighs of disgust she just gently flipped me over, kissed my face and told me she loved me. I snuggled all down into the comfort zone and let out a good sigh of comfort… I love my mom.
Mind you, this is not a single event - but a wonderful, kind and giving exchange we share many times every day and it is totally effortless effort.
Since another year has flown by, I decided to look back at my very first blog post three years ago and realized that while a lot has changed maybe in our surrounding world as for life in my forever home? It is a super strong structure built on amazingly solid, ground. In fact, if you made a quilt from the many memories we’ve created in our 3 years together, every piece would fit together perfectly… not a stitch missed. This quilt would portray the lives of three of us working together through all of life’s trials and tribulations but more importantly, it would highlight our many, many victories and would be trimmed with a big band of love.
So with the holidays my wish more than ever is that we should be aware of the gifts right before us… We don’t need a tree to put them under or fancy packaging of any kind! Every day I have a gift of love to give and also to accept. Rescue dogs, young or old, big or small, special needs or not, we all have SO… MUCH to GIVE! Now some of us take a little while to understand the accepting part, but we WANT to so please don't give up. All ya gotta do is accept and embrace. In fact that should be your daily mantra!
Mom says, she’s yet to see a greater display of genuine acceptance and appreciation than that of the Rhu dog. The gift of humbleness is there to unwrap and explore every, single, day. I know, I know, I’m not a video game or an i-phone, pad, pod, touch or whatever “i” is the hottest ticket these days. Mom says I’d like to see anybody’s smart phone compare with what you bring to my life, Rhu”
I think I’ll create a “Humble Me” APP where Rhu could give a little attitude adjustment when needed. Hmmm, I like that idea!
So this year when you put something under that tree, or in that stocking or give to the needy, remember all those who don’t have families of love right there with them… the soldiers, the homeless, the shelter animal or someone who has lost a loved one. Please give them an extra little ray of sunshine to remember you by… Did you know? You can wash away somebody’s troubles with just one, single, ray? Well that's what I think 'cause it works for me all the time! Mom calls it her daily dose of Rhu and it really doesn’t take a lot to make someone’s day extra special.
Wishing every one an extra love-filled, wonderful, giving, holiday because that's what it's all about.
