UPDATE #1 - 10:00 A.M. FRIDAY 10/17/14 - Mom spoke to the vet. Confirms the pneumonia but a different concern is my esophagus has air in it and they are trying to figure out if it is simply irritated or a more complex problem, since it is a muscle. Looks like I won't be going home today so they can watch me closely Mom is sad 'cause they don't want her to visit since it gets me wound up and then knowing she has to leave may upset me all the more. This is soooo hard. Life has thrown us a curve ball but we are all completely hopeful.
UPDATE #2 GOOD NEWS!! I AM RALLYING LIKE MAD AND MAY BE ABLE TO COME HOME TOMORROW!! IF MY OXYGEN LEVELS CONTINUE TO IMPROVE, I WILL BE HOME WITH MY MOM & DAD TOMORROW!! KEEP UP THE GOOD THOUGHTS - THEY ARE WORKING MIRACLES!!! MY FANS ARE THE BEST EVER!!
UPDATE #3 - MY HOMECOMING GOT POSTPONED BY A DAY BUT THAT IS ACTUALLY JUST FOR GOOD PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES. SATURDAY IS IT THOUGH!! I AM NOT STAYING AWAY ANY LONGER.
SATURDAY - MOM JUST GOT THE GREEN LIGHT TO PICK ME UP TODAY!!! RHU-HOO!!!!!!!
I will need some in-home care - and I like that idea - MORE attention, right on!!
I still have some pneumonia on one side but it's better than it was by far. My Esophagus is completely NORMAL and no other tests are needed so that's a huge mogul to get over and a relief. I will be going out in my cart more frequently but for less amounts of time at first. This, just until my breathing returns to completely normal. I was never placed on oxygen during this entire time so that too is a great sign. Mom has purchased a BUNCH of pillows to prop me up with keeping me more prone than I like to be. ALL OF THIS IS GREAT NEWS TO MY EARS AND ESPECIALLY MOM & DAD'S.
SUNDAY - SOOOOO HAPPY TO BE HOME!!!
Wow, what a routine me & mom have to do now! Pills w/no food, wait an hour, pills with food, pills in between eating, feed me food that's easy to swallow, get in my cart so I can sit up, breathe steam, coupage (fancy word for beat on the sides of my chest to break up mucous, flip me many times through the day, keep me in sternal position which is my hardest one because my limbs don't bend where they need to and man do I try to cheat on this one!!! Two kinds of antibiotics (luckily I'm on probiotics already), then there's the pepcid and Carafate, to coat my esophagus (which is basically like drinking chalk - YUCK!) feed me upright to assist my food in traveling down the right path. Sit in my cart, go out for short walks in my cart OMG - it's a good thing mom has all this written down & scheduled out for me. All this and still, I'm the happiest dog in town! Definitely the most loved. Again, words cannot express our gratitude for all the wellness wishes. I bet they miss me at the hospital - everyone said I was this amazing, magical dog - I'm so glad they thought so - course mom tells me this all the time. The treatment regimen will go on for a couple weeks - Mom says I'm worth every bit of it!
OUR DEEPEST THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR THOUGHTS, LOVE, PRAYERS AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU SENT MY WAY! IT WORKED!!
Thank you - guardian angels.
HOME SAH-WEET, HOME!!!
Huge improvement now and it seems clear that I am fast on the road to being my fun, feisty self. I have LOVED all the extra attention. It seems every day I am getting a new toy - Rhu-Hoo - that rocks so hard!! It's good to see mom smile again too - Ya know, being connected at the heart is really difficult sometimes and this was a tough one.
I'm still getting medicine for a while but taking it all in peanut butter covered stride! Good disguise, mom! She has been putting some organic baby food in with my food to help me swallow a little easier too. Better than having some fake thickener. Her own mom just had a serious neck injury that effected her swallowing and she saw that the hospital made things thick which really helped so why wouldn't it work on a dog? I love it too! It really helps to not be a picky eater. Yikes mom just yelled it's Peanut Butter Jelly Time!
I ROCKED MY RE-CHECK!!
It's been one week ago that my life was a teetering around am I going to beat this pneumonia thing or did I have an even more serious condition to add on
NO WAY!! I AM ALL CLEAR, MY XRAYS AND THE SOUND OF MY LUNGS & HEART PROVED IT TO THE DOCS! GOOD AS NEW AND THERE IS NO ONE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MOM & DAD THAT IS HAPPIER THAN I AM. I ALREADY WENT TO MY PARK TODAY!! RHUUUU-HOO I AM ONE EXCEPTIONALLY HAPPY DOG AGAIN! THANK YOU FROM THE TIP OF MY NOSE TO THE END OF MY WAGGIN' TAIL FOR ALL THE WELL WISHERS. THIS IS WHAT MAKES ALL WHO KNOW & LOVE ME SO EXTRA SPECIAL. TWO PAWS UP... WAAAAAY UP!
NOW LET'S GET ON WITH THIS THANG CALLED, LIFE WITH RHU!
