Life As Rhu's "Mom"

As Rhu’s "mom", I NEVER live a day of regret… Regret that I am being kept from doing some  thing or going some place…That I am needing more purpose in some temporary, outer way.

The purity of Rhu’s soul shines brighter than any star, sun or moon in the galaxy and that is what I see.  It is an absolute privilege to have been chosen to receive this gift of Rhu…That we chose each other on that one special day almost 4 years ago.

With a world so steeped in anger and war, with so many heavy hearts,  Rhu is like the exhale portion of a deep sigh…you know, that part where you just let it all go and get to begin anew.

Each day when I take Rhu out in his cart it's always so  amazing to see the impression he leaves  with others...the good part too.  There are literally hundreds of people too diverse to describe.  From homeless to wealthy, young to elderly -  people from all cultures,  countries and backgrounds we've met them all.  The most wonderful thing?    The very best part?   He  equally  moves their hearts  and many, to tears… JUST,  BEING,  RHU.   See what I mean?   He always leaves me with something to contemplate in my own life.

The whispers of a heart-in-need obviously transcend all time and space.  What other reason could there be that one single picture, received on one ordinary morning, could bring such an extraordinary calling to my heart?   I’ve seen hundreds of photos of pets in need and though I have been deeply touched, with Rhu, I was MOVED.  That difference is key.  I knew I had to bring him into my life and there wasn’t a moment to waste by allowing the mind to butt-in with its version of practicality.  Had I done that, he would not be laying at my feet as I write this.  I still can’t talk about him to others without a deep mist filling my eyes…He still MOVES me.

When I get that chance to go on vacation, I turn it down not with regret but knowing that there is no vacation in the world that could make me feel any more whole than spending time with Rhu.  It’s a feeling that comes from within and that feeling cannot be duplicated or replaced by any thing.

I lost a beautiful pet one year on Mother’s Day and knew I would never view that holiday the same way…This Mother’s Day I am grateful to say because of Rhu,  the same is equally true.

Happy Mother's Day - I hope this special day  gives all  you moms that  Exhale  kind of feeling.

BEAUTIFUL tribute to Rhu. I too had a dog (Fritz) that was so special in every way. There was no better feeling than just being in his presence. Thank you for sharing Your very special relationship with Rhu with me. Brings back wonderful memories. Blessings to you both!

I spent time with Rhu at Best Friends a few years ago and never ever forgot him. He is a beautiful soul. What a wonderful life you are sharing together. It is meant to be, for you both. I can't think of any greater joy than the love you are giving to each other. Thank you for being who you are, to nurture and love him, to give him peace, safety, joy, happiness, and for letting him be the beautiful being that he is. And bless him for giving you beauty in your life. Your life together is truly what it's all about.

Shelly I had tears in my eyes as I read this. We were at Best Friends the day you picked Rhu up. Was one of the most special things I have witnessed. The love you share is amazing.

I know exactly how you feel, I had a special baby ( beagle mix) that was diabetic, had to have 2 shots a day so, I never would go on vacation because I would not leave him. I was blessed to have him for 13 years, but when he passed that was the hardest thing I have ever went through, the pain still there when I talk about him. I can't wait to see him again one day. I love you and Rhu he is so beautiful and just touches my heart so.

My boyfriend Mike and I had the privilege to meet Rhu and Shelly at the beach today in Newport while we are on vacation. What an inspirational pair you both are. Our hope is to someday see Rhu in the sand with a new cart with wheels that can accommodate that. I will be looking and asking around for you!
God Bless you both :)
