In my case it’s the real deal and since it’s coming up on my 2nd anniversary in my forever home I thought I would chronicle a day in the life for this special needs dog.
Mornings begin early for mom, at about 5:00 a.m. and I am already prepping my look to start the daily regimen… I create “looks” all day long and with precise timing – the key ingredient to making it all work to my best advantage. So here we go…
6:15 a.m. - I am patiently waiting for mom to return from her morning run. I sleep without worry during that time, no problem. Once I hear that front door open though, it’s time to wake up! Come on Rhu, rise and shine! Hugs and kisses from mom first thing.
I listen to ALL my favorite sounds in the mornings, which have nothing to do with the birds singing and EVERYTHING to do with sounds coming from the treat/toy room.
Oooooh, how I love that clinking sound of food hitting the bowl - And that’s just the first part…I get a bunch of vitaminy stuff sprinkled over the top… Oh I cannot wait!... c’mon Rhu don’t lose your focus – ooh, ooh - here she comes, out of the pantry... Rhu-hu-WHAT? Not ready yet? Oh dang-it! I forgot, next is my special turkey formula from “Just Food For Dogs”. I hear the wrapping being folded down, yep, the clanking of the spoon, yep, mixing it all, yep…Hurry up, mom – that’s good enough… Ready? oh shoot! I’m on my side that sucks to sit up!
Don’t panic Rhu, remember how mom is teaching you to flip from either side? Here she comes… now she’ll reach over top of me and fake me out like she’s going to pull my legs to “flip” and I fall for it every time and simply flip myself over… I just can’t get how mom has this magic stuff in her hands I guess but it works for me!! She says I'm learning but I don't care right now!
I just want to EAT!!! Finally! Scrumptious food. Takes me about 5 mins. give or take 2 to 3 of those. Now, the final cleanup ritual begins…I clean every morsel on the inside of the bowl, all around the outside, on the floor, then grab the bowl with my teeth pulling it close to me for a final slurping. Ahhh, now I tip over with delight!
7:00 to 7:30 a.m. - Mom picks my furry butt up and carries me outside to go potty. If I’m lucky, I’ll get to see some of my dog friends too like, Lucy and Ginger or Walter the Beagle and on a really lucky day I get to see, my favorite, miniature Aussie, “Tennessee”-weeeeee! I LOVE Tennessee! I know his name as well as he does and whenever I hear anyone say it I go pretty crazy!!
Sometimes at about the same time, “Mork”, the Morky might be dropped off here to spend the day with me. He weighs about as much as one of my ears but it’s still fun to see him, as long as he doesn’t take all the attention!!
Depending on the day of the week, the weather or the workload, I may go out for an early morning cart run. I always welcome the cart runs. Or I may just be getting a new toy or getting stretched or brushed or all the above. All of this before 9:00 a.m.! I have to admit, I am pretty spoiled. AND I DESERVE IT!
9:30 a.m. One of my other pack members is due to arrive and I always perk up again when that happens. What did you bring me? C’mon, what’s in the little plastic bag that looks just like the ones that I get new toys from? It better not just be stuff for your lunch. After that, it’s time to start working mom some more. Guess I’d better I scoot around until I get in just the right position to flip and now my head is under mom’s desk near her feet. Ahhh – time to get some shut eye.
11:00 a.m. Mom picks me up again to visit the grass in the park across the street. I like to sun myself over there too when it’s not too hot.
12:00 noon – LUNCH!! Calling all people to bring me my ice cubes I get at lunchtime! Oh yes and the coolest thing, EVER- I lie on my doggie pad and one of my pack members pulls me into the lunch room while I ride on top, like a magic carpet ride! I LOVE IT!! I lift up my head and look around as they make me glide across the room. The only thing missing is my parade wave as I pass through each room.
3:00 p.m. - CART RUN and YOGURTLAND AWAY!!! Any place is great for my cart runs though my favorite is still the park with all the dirt trails and bike moguls. Sometimes following my cart run is some balancing on my hind feet minus the rear saddle in my cart. This is hard work for me so for my grand finale, we get frozen yogurt. Because I get to lick the bottom of each cup, I’ve learned exactly what person, in what order, finishes their yogurt 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I then work each one in just the right order AND completely ignore the others till it’s their turn.– without even realizing it, mom noticed one day there was a little puddle forming beneath my chin. Yep, I was drooling…kind of like a faucet on real slow but steady. Soon as the food is gone and I’ve gotten to lick the bottom of the cups followed by poking holes in them, the faucet magically goes off.
4:00 to 5:00p.m. – Out like a light. Shhhhh. Wild dog sleeping.
5:15ish – I begin to reawaken as I feel the same sensations I felt this morning. This time while mom is getting my dinner prepped, I add air-barking to the routine just to get her going. Man, why does it take so long? Cahhhh’mon mom! Finally, Dinner is served.
5:20p.m. – Done! Now rubbing my face all over the carpet in pure blissful pleasure. Good time for some more toy playin'.
6:00 p.m. – Out for another potty break but don’t think my day is over yet! Mom and Dad still have to eat.
7:00 p.m. or so my nose starts to twitch with delight, mmm, must be mom & dad’s dinner. I lay on the floor acting like I am soooo sleepy…Yes I’m as cool as a cucumber, just sleepin’ away UNTIL… Mom’s behind hits the chair and then INSTANTLY start working them… Air barks and oh yes, I am now extreeeemely thirsty…Could you get me that toy – no, not that one, the one by the door or, maybeeee, if you give me a split antler to work on or, stuff my Kong toy…or…HEH-HEH!! Who knows what time it is but I do finally give up after I’ve gotten my way and eventually fall asleep to someone brushing me or massaging me and I am sooo sleepy UNTIL…Dad fixes his ice cream….no, no, no I don’t get ice cream but I do get to lick the small size empty container or lid. NOW... FINALLY I can get some sleep!!… Man what’s it take to get some rest around this place!
Yep, definitely livin’ the dream so please…. don’t wake me up! Oh yeah here's a new youtube video of me getting a new toy snake -
